This figure describes the element that will be addressed during the wildland firefighter (WLF) hydration education based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. This theory includes a focus on attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control which all should lead to behavior change. The focus is to optimize hydration status through self-assessment, therefore we will influence WLFs hydration attitudes by addressing how hydration relates to firefighter performance, health, and safety. In addition, we will discuss culture and leadership and how these influence WLF behavior, and finally, the control that the WLFs perceive while also offering them instruction on hydration self-assessment.
